If we all had to verbalize our biggest struggle when the storms come in our lives, I'm convinced that it wouldn't be the size of the wave or the surprise of it all. I'm convinced that it would be that weren't not quite sure if we can trust God with it all. We know He's done great things in the past, but somehow when the wind picks up and the boat starts to rock, we question if He's really capable of not only handling the storm, but of protecting us from drowning in it all.

Because the truth of it all is no matter how much we say we trust in God when times are good, nothing challenges our faith in Him like a storm can.

And I'd be lying to you if I said that trusting Him when you don't know how things are going to turn out is an easy thing. But truthfuly, the alternative is much more difficult.

People who don't trust in God end up trusting in themselves. I don't know about you, but that scares me. I know me. I know my limitations. I know that I can't see beyond what's right in front of me and even that isn't always clear. If I was in charge of the outcome of any storm, whether it's in my life or someone else's, the only thing I could do is advise everyone within its reach to evacuate. And even then, I'd probably mess up.

God on the other hand is more than capable. He has an eternity of experience of dealing with storms. He's delivered the captives. Won huge battles. Healed the sick. And guided people through the darkest days of their lives. The Bible is a living testimony of the power of God and the ability He has to take care of storms. And that God who lead Israel out of captivity, even though the Red Sea, is no different today. As Billy Graham once said: "People change, fashions change, and conditions change but God never changes."

The same God that led Peter out of the boat and onto the choppy water is more than capable of leading you through your storm. The question you have to ask yourself is are you willing to trust Him in every area of your life? Tiday He stands at the door and knocks, waiting for you to open for Him. When you do, everything changes. Suddenly you're no longer alone to navigate the storm. Instead you've got Someone a whole lot bigger and a whole lot more trustworthy there by your side. And even in the biggest waves you'll find that His presence is enough.
