First posting

July 19th, 2005

So I’m back to blogging with a new site and a different address. With the previous system I was getting a lot of spam on my comments, so I decided to give this new system a try.

If you want to comment on this blog, you’ll have to log in, but no worries- it’s not a difficult process.

Anyways, hope you enjoy the new blog and are able to check back in often. First “real” post to follow!

A time of firsts

August 8th, 2005

So it’s been quite a while since my last post and lots has been happening since then. These past few months have definitely been a time of a lot of “firsts” for me. One of the most recent “firsts” being that I entered into my first book publishing contract, which I couldn’t be happier about. I am loving the writing process and figuring everything out with a pen and paper (or computer and keyboard).

Besides writing I’ve also been doing a lot of work on the radio show, implementing the ton of stuff I learned at the (first) radio seminar that I attended in June and working to make things be the best that they can be.

With all of these exciting and rewarding things happening, I still have been finding myself a bit fearful lately. I’ve always had a fear of failure and that fear is something that I’ve had to battle with a lot lately in writing this book, because really there are no guarantees. In a worldly sense there is no guarantees that I actually receive any money from this because that all depends on how many books are sold, but really, the issues go deeper than that because God has always provided.

I guess deep down I’m just afraid that I’m somehow going to mess this up. I’m not going to pay enough attention or I’m going to say the wrong thing or read God’s Spirit wrong or something. I know where this fear comes from and I know that it’s not from God, but at the same time it’s there.

This all ties into this time of “firsts” because anytime we are faced with a situation that is unknown or is bigger than what we can handle, we are faced with fears. And even though it would be easy to stay locked away from these types of situations to avoid fear, that is not where true living is found and that is not where God wants us to be.

Lately my “theme song” has been Nichole Nordeman’s song Brave and every time I feel afraid or uncertain, I try to recall the truths found in this song:

I am small and I speak when I’m spoken to
But I am willing to risk it all
I say your name, just your name
And I’m ready to jump, even ready to fall
Why did I take this vow of compromise
Why did I try to keep it all inside

So long status-quo
I think I’ll just let go
You make me want to be brave
The way it always was
Is no longer good enough
You make me want to be brave
Brave.

Because in truth, with God we can be brave. We can step out, knowing that even if we fall, God will catch us. And besides, it’s a lot better to walk and stumble, than to sit back and never walk at all. I don’t want to live a status-quo existence and if facing fear is a price to pay for that, then I know it’s worth the price.

In This Storm

September 13th, 2005

In This Storm
Things are changing
Wars are raging
I can’t see a thing
My life is flashing
My hope’s are dashing
And here I stand in vain

Chorus
In the midst of this pace
I look for You and Your grace
Yet here I stand alone
Where are you my God?
Can you see where I am?
I’m so lost right now, I just don’t know

The sky is darkened
My fears are sharpened
As I weather this storm
My foundation is cracking
My assurance is lacking
I don’t know where to go

Chorus
In the midst of this pace
I look for You and Your grace
Yet here I stand alone
Where are you my God?
Can you see where I am?
I’m so lost right now, I just don’t know

Bridge
The lightning cracks
The thunder rolls
And in this storm I find I’m not alone
He’s never left me alone…

Apple Can’t Be Beat

October 13th, 2005

Let me start this post by saying that I’ve always been a fan of Apple computers. My first computer was an Apple and ever since then I’ve been a fan. Do I currently own one? No. Do I currently want to? Yes. But that’s besides the point.

Apple just announced the launch of their new video iPod that not only holds thousands of songs, but you guessed it, many hours of video. And if that wasn’t enough iTunes 6 will be offering downloads of favorite TV shows for as little as 1.99 per episode! For someone who doesn’t have cable or satellite, this is looking pretty appealing!

The only downside is the price tag, which is $379 for the 40 gb model and I don’t think I could justify spending that on something that’s not a necessity, but I can dream can’t I?

Speaking From The Silence

November 12th, 2005

So it’s been a while since I’ve last posted and for a very good reason. On October 19th I went in for surgery (thanks to a cancellation) and since then, let’s just say it’s been an adventure.

Two surgeries and a big scare later, I’m on the road to recovery and although my energy level is still really low, I’m trying to get things done.

For all you MAD Christian Radio Show listeners I apologize for the repeats over the past few weeks. Next weekend you guys will have a new show to listen to even if it takes me all week to get it done. Out of all the things that I’ve missed doing over the past three and a half weeks, the radio show tops the list and I’m looking forward to getting that part of my regular routine up and running again.

To all of you who have emailed me and are waiting on a response, I apologize. As mentioned, my energy level is still really low and being in the hospital for so long left me with a lot of messages to get caught up on. It may take a while, but I promise I will respond to all the messages!

And to all of you who have been praying for me during this time- my sincerest thanks. Prayer makes a world of difference and I know that now more than ever.

“We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul– not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that He has for us.” Colossians 1:11-12 (The Message)

Am I That Predictable?

November 23rd, 2005

I took the birthorder quiz and it certainly predicted my spot in the birthorder. For personality description I’m not so sure it’s that accurate though. But I guess that’s up for you to decide ;)

You Are Likely a Second Born

At your darkest moments, you feel inadequate.
At work and school. you do best when you’re evaluating.
When you love someone, you offer them constructive criticism.

In friendship, you tend to give a lot of feedback - positive and negative.
Your ideal careers are: accounting, banking, art, carpentry, decorating, teaching, and writing novels.
You will leave your mark on the world with art and creative projects.
